In massive infrastructure projects such as water distribution networks, natural gas pipelines, agricultural irrigation areas, and widespread organized industrial zones (OIZ), the points that need to be controlled are located miles apart from each other. Manually inspecting pump stations, valve rooms, and transformer centers in such scattered geographies creates a serious waste of workforce and increases emergency response times to hours. This is where RTU Panels (Remote Terminal Units), which collect data from the field, transmit it to the center, and execute commands from the center, come into play. Operating in open terrain, on mountaintops, or in underground stations, RTU systems must withstand much harsher conditions compared to standard panels inside a factory. Extreme heat, freezing cold, humidity, lightning risks, and unauthorized intervention dangers are the main factors to be considered in the design of these panels. In the Konya panel project designs we prepare, we place RTU equipment inside stainless steel or specially painted enclosures with high protection classes (IP65/IP66); and we empower them with industrial communication modules that will provide uninterrupted data communication over GSM, GPRS, RF, or fiber optic lines.
Hundreds of thousands of real-time data points (water pressure, flow rate, energy consumption, fault alarms) collected by RTU panels in the field are encrypted within milliseconds and transmitted to the SCADA software in the main control center. In our SCADA system Konya based projects, which we develop specifically for regional infrastructure needs, managers can graphically monitor the entire energy and liquid flow of a massive city or organized industrial zone on giant screens. A sudden pressure drop in a pipeline instantly generates an alarm on the SCADA screen, and the operator prevents a potential disaster by closing a valve miles away with a single click.
